Royal Ascot and Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Paddington gave coach Aidan O’ Brien a record-breaking seventh win within the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.
In a tense chase, the favorite held off a problem from Emily Upjohn to cross the end line by half a size.
Jockey Ryan Moore, who received his third Coral-Eclipse, steered Paddington by way of having led from the stalls after a wise early breakaway.
“I do not assume we noticed the very best of the horse,” he advised ITV Racing.
Paddington, who received the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot final month, was racing for the primary time at 10 furlongs.
However Moore had little doubt the horse may deal with the gap – and so it proved.
“We had little or no doubts,” he added. “He can go additional as a result of he’s an excellent horse.”
O’Brien, who final received the race with St Mark’s Basilica in 2021, stated of Paddington: “He is getting faster. He was heavier right here than he was at Ascot which is uncommon, so he’s clearly turning into a really fast horse.
“He is a dream. The lads will decide the place we go subsequent, however I would think about they’d have a look at the Sussex Stakes, however we’ll see how he comes out of this. That is not set in stone, however I may see that as one thing they’d have a look at.”
